Annuals are plants that need to be replanted every season, unlike perennials which come back every year. We have a large selection of annuals every spring. We carry plenty of sun and shade loving flowers. If you're not sure what kind of plants to get, our greenhouse staff can help pick some that will work best in your garden! We also offer pre-made and custom made combo pots for your front porch! During the fall season, we have a great selection of fall annuals, including gorgeous annual mums!
Every spring and summer, Van Atta’s perennial yard is packed with over 20,000 perennials that we grow right here on site! Then, we continue to keep our tables stocked throughout the season by bringing fabulous 
perennials in from some of the finest growers in Michigan and beyond. From the tried-and-true to the new and fabulous, be it May or October, our goal is to offer you a wide selection of perennials throughout the season. We offer our perennials in a variety of sizes to suit all your project and Michigan gardening needs. Take a stroll through one of our beautiful display gardens featuring many of the over 800 varieties of perennials we carry. Check out our very own “Hosta hillside” which features many examples of the 80+ varieties of Hosta we carry!

Visit Van Atta’s nursery department for a diverse selection of Michigan-hardy trees and shrubs. Stroll through clearly marked areas showcasing flowering, fruiting and shade trees, and a vast array of shrubs to enhance any location.
Van Atta’s has a variety of soil and amendments to give your trees and shrubs a healthy start, and we also provide all the necessary finishing touches to your outdoor beds, with a wide assortment of mulches and stone. Take your purchases home with you, or schedule delivery and planting for a stress-free installation.
While you’re here, learn how to turn certain hydrangeas blue, or when it’s appropriate to prune your apple trees; and shop from plants that have been hand-picked for performance in our region. Van Atta’s knowledgeable staff can guide you to the best plant for your specific area, and educate you in how to properly care for and maintain the new addition to your landscape, so you can enjoy it for years to come.
Bare root plants are available March-May. Our stock typically consists of asparagus, strawberries and sweet potatoes. We also stock garlic, onions, seed potatoes and much more this time of year. Dahlias, lilies, gladiolus, and other flowering bulbs are also available during the spring season.
Fall bulbs are available near September. This selection typically includes tulips, crocus, daffodils, hyacinths, and much more. Fall bulbs get planted in the fall and bloom the following spring.
