Greater Lansing Rose Society Rose Show The Greater Lansing Rose Society will hold its sixty-fourth annual rose show on June 15, 2013. The show will be held at Van Atta’s Greenhouse and Flower Shop, 9008 Old M-78 in Haslett. Entries must be received between 7:00 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Non-members may enter, but only award certificates and miniature roses may be won in lieu of trophies. Exhibits will be judged from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. After the judging, the show will be opened to the public from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. Visitors will be able to see and smell a large variety of roses of all sizes, from hybrid teas to minifloras and miniatures, displayed in a number of different ways. The Greater Lansing Rose Society was established in 1946 and is affiliated with the American Rose Society. VanAtta's Garden Explorer's Club
We're launching Van Atta's Garden Explorer's Club for elementary-aged kids! Meetings will be the first Saturday of every month, and the first activity will be Saturday, April 6th. You'll need to sign your children up ahead of time at (517) 339-1142, and it's a $2 fee per child, with a maximum of 2 children per attending adult (adults don't have to pay!) Each "meeting" will have a presentation and activity, and will begin at 10am, and end by lunchtime for sure. We hope your kids are as excited about this as we are!
April 6th - 10am:
Backyard Birding! An informal, interactive presentation about attracting and identifying Michigan songbirds. Kids will make a natural birdseed treat at the end of the program, with the option of building a birdhouse or feeder for an additional fee.
May 4th - 10am:
Paint a Pot and Plant a Posy! We'll have a discussion about how plants work, what they need to grow and thrive, and why plants are important in our lives, then we'll paint a little pot and plant a flower to take home!
June 1st - 10am:
Basically Bats!! Learn what makes bats unique, observe the differences and similarities between them and learn what they eat. This program features live bats from across the globe!
July 6th - 10am:
Garden Scavenger Hunt! Spend a fun morning discovering, learning and hunting for clues and prizes!
August 3rd - 10am:
Butterfly Bonanza! Learn about the beautiful Monarch butterfly, and enjoy an interactive presentation which includes a butterfly tent!
